Surfing
One of the easiest places in the world to learn, and a serious destination once you can stand up.
Weligama Bay is about as forgiving an introduction to surfing as exists — a long sandy beach break where instructors routinely have complete beginners riding whitewater inside one session. A few kilometres east, Midigama and Ahangama turn into punchier reef breaks that will keep an intermediate surfer busy for weeks.
On the other side of the island and the other side of the calendar, Arugam Bay's main point is a long, mechanical right-hander that draws surfers from all over the world between May and September. Board hire, lessons and multi-day surf camps can all be arranged, and we will put you on the coast that is actually working when you visit.
