Kitesurfing in Kalpitiya
Flat, shallow lagoon water and dependable cross-shore wind — the best kitesurfing in South Asia.
Kalpitiya is the quietest world-class thing in Sri Lanka. A wide, waist-deep lagoon gives you flat water and a forgiving surface to learn on, while the wind blows cross-shore with unusual reliability across two distinct seasons — roughly May to October, when it is strongest, and again from December to March.
Beginners spend their first sessions on the lagoon with a radio helmet and a rescue boat. Once you are independent, the sandbars and downwinders towards Vella Island and the Dutch Bay flats are the reason people come back year after year. Lessons are IKO-certified and all equipment is included.
